Sighting Details

What did the UFO look like, shape/size in relation to terrestrial objects/lights/colour :

The object was very bright orange light that kept dimming down to almost nothing, then became really bright again. It was moving forward but to the left, then it stopped in one position. I called my friend who was staying over, to witness what I was seeing as I wasn't sure if what I was seeing was real. We both watched it for about 40 mins, and in this time it moved closer, kept moving from left to right like it was searching for something. There was no clouds, at first so I don't understand how it brightened then dimmed to almost nothing. There was no way it was a star, helicopter, or planet. This was moving and pulsating. The stars around it where a lot more far away than this thing, and planes were passing way far above this object. Every now and then we kept seeing flashes coming off of it, like a camera flash.

Did the UFO do any strange things like hover and then zoom off quickly :

After 40 mins my friend gave up and went to bed, but i carried on watching it for a further 15-20 mins, and it steadily moved further away but kept moving from side to side like it was swinging. then just before it shot up and dissapeared it kinda darted around abit. Then shot up.
