Sighting Details

What did the UFO look like, shape/size in relation to terrestrial objects/lights/colour :

I was just having a cigarette before bed on my balcony and noticed a big flash of light from the corner of my eye. It is quite a clear night and there is only a large group of bigger clouds to the left of my eye line. I can see for quite a long way as I am high up and have a good panoramic view of the area. I looked up and waited, expecting a thunder clap but nothing came. I had assumed it was lightening as it was that kind of intense flash, but nothing came. I then realised it wasn't even raining (not even windy). As I stood there another flash happened and this time, as I was watching that general area now I had a chance to confirm what I thought it was. But the lightening was so close which shocked me and it was illuminating the dark clouds, coming straight out of them and appeared to be different colours (blue/green/yellow/pink). Again, I waited for the thunder but there was nothing there. Considering the size of the bolt and the extreme closeness of where it was happening I was shocked and had a strange feeling about what I was seeing. This proceeded to happen in what appeared to be a timed manor (striking every 30-35 seconds) roughly twelve times. It could have been more before I went to my balcony, I cant be sure the first one I saw was the first that had happened. While this was happening I saw what looked like a military jet plane circling the area (it had a solid red light and flashing white light). It must have circled the area directly underneath the clouds about four or five times until it all stopped. The plane hung around for about six minutes then flew off.

I know this wasn't strictly a sighting but it had a feeling of one, or at least something not natural. I wanted to share this in as much detail while it is fresh in my head. please contact me if you have seen anything like this before or if you saw it yourself.
